Where to begin – South Africa is voting this week, many of us with fear and intrepidation that we are headed down the same path as Zimbabwe, and should be following the path out of SA like so many of our friends. Meanwhile, I’m trying to get to grips with social media and write an email newsletter for clients and prospects. Also started working on a new website for a client, and quoted on producing a small website for a friend – and on that note… Because this was a friend, we felt we should come in at a really decent price – she’s starting a new business, and we’d like to stay friends. So I had a look at some of the website design and development offerings around town – and was shocked. We are not considered expensive, but you can get a website for the same price as a pair of shoes! Design quality aside, it was surprising how some known brands have settled for these cheap, template-based websites instead of investing a little more in a professional, original website. Reminded me of a wonderful blog I read a while ago – http://www.160over90.com/blog/2009/02/17/the-50-dollar-logo-experiment/  – a delight for all the designers out there who have ever been pushed on price! It is also a good lesson for clients who don’t appreciate the value of professional design. Would be interesting to get some idea of how many companies are reducing their marketing budgets because of the ‘recession’ – regardless of the devastating impact it could have on their business.
